Day by day itinerary

 

Before approaching Tibet:

Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday: Be met in Katmandu Airport and then transfer to your hotel.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: In the morning go to China Consulate for visa application (Our side will arrange the service for your visa application)

 

D01 Kathmandu/Zhangmu

Accommodation: Zhangmu Pema Hotel 2* or similar class if late booking

We leave Kathmandu early in the morning, driving for 123km through the beautiful Nepalese countryside to Kodari on the Nepal - Tibet border. After completing the border formalities at both the Nepalese and Chinese immigration posts we drive up a series of incredibly steep switchbacks to Zhangmu on the Tibetan side of the border. Today you could have a view of the Himalayas covered in the sea of clouds in distance.

 

D02 Zhangmu/Nyalam [B] 

Accommodation: Simple Guesthouse

It's a short drive now of only 30km to Nyalam. We spend a rest day in Nyalam today in order to acclimatize before heading up higher. A short way out of town there is a small temple, Nyalam Pelgye Ling, which is associated with Milarepa. Milarepa, the yogi, has played an important role in the religious life of Tibet and his teachings still influence the people everywhere.

D03 Nyalam/Mt. Everest Base Camp [B]

Accommodation: Sightseeing Hotel

Drive further in to the mountains to get to Mt. Everest Base Camp. You can appreciate the beautiful scenery on the way. Make an excursion to Langkhor Monastery en route. After arrival, you could have a view of Mt. Everest in distance. Visit Rongbuk Monastery upon arrival. Enjoy the close touch with Mt. Everest. Overnight at the only hotel in this area (the condition there is very simple) or you can camp in the Base Camp if the weather is nice.

 

D04 Base Camp/Lhatse [B]

Accommodation: Lhatse Shangahi Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking  

Drive further to Lhatse, visit Lhatse Chode Monastery upon arrival. Have a tour to Xinqin Hot Springs (self-paid) which are 10km east of Lhatse. Overnight at the only hotel in Lhasa.

Description:

Xiqin Hot Spring (4010 elevations) is located at Chusha Town in Lhatse County, 10 km from the county and 0.5 km from the No. 318 national highway. It is said lots of illness can be cured by taking a shower in the hot spring. It is the perfect place for a relaxed solitary time. Don't forget to wash up your face and hands with the spring water as it contains medicinal values. Self-paid if you want to have a dip.

D05 Lhatse/Sakya/Shigatse [B]

Accommodation: Shigatse Manasarovar Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

Continue drive to Sakya. Upon arrival, make an excursion to Sakya Monastery (4.280 m). Then continue to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet via Gyatsola Mountain Pass (5220m). Upon arrival, have a visit to Tashilumpu Monastery and its free market.

Description:

The monastic town of Sakya is one of Tsang’s most significant attractions, and occupies an important place in Tibetan history. One characteristic feature of the Sakya region is the colouring of its buildings. Sakya literally means “pale earth”.

D06 Shigatse/Gyangtse/Lhasa [B]

In the morning, drive onward to Gyangtse City, a famous historic city in Tibet. Upon arrival, have a tour to the Pelkhor Monastery as well as Kumbum Stupa. Then continue to Lhasa along the Kyichu River. On the Ganba La (4,796 m) have a fantastic view of the holy lake of Yamdrok Yumtso (4441 m). Upon arrival, the free time at your disposal.

Description:

Lake Yamdrok Yumtso, one of the three largest lakes of Tibet, lies about a hundred kilometers' distance to the southwest of Lhasa, is within Langkamu county, with an area of 638 square kilometers and a coastal line of 250 kilometers. The deepest point is 60 metres. To the interior of the lake ten or so hilly islands stand independently one from the other which give homes to flocks of wild ducks. A lot of colorful ducks and geese are swimming on the surface of the lake. There is also plenty of natural fodder for the fish in the lake. The lake has a fish reserve of about 300 million kilograms.That is why it is called "the Fish Store of Tibet". The coast of the lake is an ideal pasture. All these make an intoxicating quite picture.

D07 Lhasa sightseeing [B]

Visit Potala Palace and Jokang Monastery today, then walk on the Barkhor street surrounding Jokhang, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Description:

1. Potala Palace and Jokhang Monastery: Immerse yourselves into the Tibetan religion and sense the unique culture.

2. Barkhor Street: stroll around an interesting market featuring Tibetan, Nepalese local products.

Please note: as you know, there is limitation of the ingoing tourists number to enter to Potala Palace everyday for protect the palace, since the palace is made from clay and wood and it becomes very fragile now after years and it is very easy to collapse if too many tourists enter in the same time. And the visiting time is limited too, there is only one hour allowed for the sightseeing of the tourists once. So your sightseeing maybe changes from the morning to the afternoon, or switch from one day to another according to the situation. But we guarantee all programs will be finished. Please be flexible in this arrangement, and thanks for your kind support and understanding. It is really a great achievement of Tibet ancestors; I hope you could have a good time in this grand palace.

D08 Lhasa Sightseeing [B]

Accommodation: Kailash Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

Visit Drepung Monastery for the whole morning, later after lunch, visit Sera monastery.  We can do the Sera Kora walk of about 1 hr and then catch the famous debate session of the monks before returning back to Lhasa.

Description:

1. Drepung Monastery: the ever largest monastery with more than 10 thousand monks. Buddhist debates often occur there.

2. Sera Monastery: a place to meditate, a place to relaxation.

 

D09 Lhasa/Xian [B]

O/N: on the train

Departure transfers for the train out and say goodbye to Tibet, excellent viewsone the way through Middle Tibet and North Tibet, from Lhasa to Xi'an.  

D10 On the train

Views on the way forwards from Lhasa to Xi'an. Evening arrival. Service ends
